Shimla zoo

Shimla zoo is a small one set amidst thick green forest. This zoo of Shimla is known as the Kufri zoo after the name of the place. The Kufri zoo of Shimla is located at a distance of 16 kilometers from Shimla. This zoo is a major tourist attraction whereby discovering some of the rarest species is an amazing experience.

This zoo at Shimla can be easily reached by boarding a bus that is available at the Shimla bus terminal and takes about a minimum span of forty five minutes to reach the zoo. This forest is surrounded by thick green trees of various kinds that adds a different beauty to the place altogether. 

This zoo of Shimla covers an area of twenty hectares and is rich with beautiful and colorful flora and fauna that makes the place all the more attractive. One of the added attraction of the zoo is the Monal bird that is a very rare Himalayan specie. 
The Kufri zoo at Shimla is the abode to a large number of endangered species like the Himalayan brown bear, the sloth bear, the panther and so on. Besides, a very rarely found snow leopard is also seen there in this zoo of Shimla. The tourists from not only India but abroad too visit this untamed wildlife region to find themselves in union with this part of the world that is so rare. 

Discover the kingly Tibetian wolf and the barking deer in this zoo of Shimla. Besides you will also find out Ghoral, Samber, Himalayan Thar, Yak, black bear and many more. The role played by the forest department in saving these natural life of the place has been noteworthy.

The Himalayan Nature Park in Kufri, one of the popular locations around Shimla, is located at a distance of 16 km. The site renowned for its ski slopes is a natural habitat of rich flora and fauna with about 140 species. Along with the park, the state government has set up a Potato Research Centre.

Spread over an area of 90 hectares, the Himalayan Nature Park was set up in 1992. The park also houses 'Monal', the State bird of Himachal Pradesh, also an endangered Himalayan species.

The site also has a mini zoo amidst dense forests, housing rare breeds of wild animals and pheasants of the Himalayan terrain. The attractions of the zoo include Tibetan Wolf, Brown Bear, Musk Deer and Barking Deer.

Visitors can also see Snow Leopard, Yak, Ghoral, Samber, Himalayan Thar and Black Bear in the zoo. Along with the zoo and nature park, tourists can also engage in horse riding.

Kufri can be approached from a narrow road leading to Chail by a drive of 30 minutes.
